Hello, my name is Nadya Thompson! I am currently a senior studying Communication, Media, and Design, as well as Business Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I was born and raised in Queens, and I am a New Yorker first and a foodie second.
Like many other stories, my love for food began when I was younger, learning recipes from my mother, who learned it from her mother and aunts. Between eating the recipes that my family brought with them from Barbados, to venturing on my own and trying new restaurants with friends, I started to appreciate foods from different cultures and the histories they carried with them.
While this website is only a small look into the cultural behemoth that is Queens, I encourage you to look for black-owned restaurants in your area. You will not only be helping the local economy, but you might find a dish with a new story.
